A brief history
In reverse chronological order — from Thailand today back to a neighborhood full of boys, bikes, and summer nights.
I was born at a very early age. I don’t remember much about that, thank goodness. In reverse chronological order, here is a brief history of my life.
I’m currently living in Thailand, on a beautiful tropical island. But luckily, it is not deserted. Hilary, my wife of 20 years, and I arrived May 16th, 2026. We live in a beautiful little villa 50 yards or meters from the beach.
For the past 40 years, I was a professor of Management Information Systems. I really enjoyed being a professor and interacting with the 20,000-plus students I taught. But last year I decided it was time to retire. I am now a professor emeritus at Marshall University.
I’m the father of eight children and the stepfather of two. I have 12 grandchildren. And generally, we are a very large, happy family. It has been a wonderful calling and a full life.
I earned a Doctor of Business Administration degree from Mississippi State University in 1993. I earned a Master of Business Administration degree in 1983. So, it took me a while to get my doctorate.
Prior to returning to school, I was a salesman at NCR Corporation. I sold small computer systems and point-of-sale systems in 30 counties of southern West Virginia and southwestern Virginia.
From 1977 to 1979 I served as a second lieutenant in the US Army, stationed at Fort Sill, Oklahoma. I was in the field artillery.
I graduated with my bachelor’s degree from Marshall University in 1977.
I served as a Mormon missionary in the California Central Mission from November 1971 until November 1973. My mission was the single greatest factor determining all my future life.
I graduated from Huntington East High School in 1970. I entered Marshall but took a two-year break for my mission. High school was fun but not the best part of my life.
I was born in 1951, the son of Isadore J. and Eva Louise Weible. And I grew up in a nice neighborhood with lots of other boys my age. We spent all our time playing sports, riding bikes, and generally messing around. One of my favorite memories was playing hide and go seek on summer nights. We also spent a lot of time at the swimming pool or going out on our boat.
My dad was a city fireman, and my mother was a waitress at the Frederick Hotel. We spent almost a month every summer at Dale Hollow Reservoir camping, swimming, water skiing, and fishing.
